Located on the shores of lac des Deux Montagnes, Vaudreuil-Dorion was born from the merger of the municipalities of Vaudreuil and Dorion in 1994. Since then, it has been in full expansion and is among the Canadian cities with the highest population growth. This translates into a remarkable commercial and industrial, but also cultural and sporting vitality.
THE PERFECT CITY TO RAISE A FAMILY!
Year after year, Vaudreuil-Dorion ranks favourably on various aspects evaluated by Maclean's magazine's list of the best communities in Canada. Notably, among the cities where it's good to raise a family! Taken into account in this category, among other things, is the facilitated access to daycare centres and the large number of young people under 15 years of age, who represent nearly a quarter of the population of Vaudreuil-Dorion.
In addition to the public elementary schools and the Académie Vaudrin, a trilingual (French, English, Spanish) private school, Vaudreuil-Dorion also has the Cité-des-Jeunes high school. This school was the cradle of the education reform in Quebec and the first ''polyvalente'' created. Its campus offers many services aimed at youth development, including a library, a cultural centre, a swimming pool and an arena.
SIGNIFICANT BENEFITS
The wide-open spaces and low prices of the properties, combined with the many services and shops and a competitive property tax rate, contribute to the growing popularity of Vaudreuil-Dorion and the interest of families to settle there. The transportation offer is also a key factor to consider since, in addition to being close to three major highways (the 30, 20 and 40), Vaudreuil-Dorion is served by a solid public transit network leading to the Vaudreuil and Dorion train stations and also linking it to neighbouring cities and to the Côte-Vertu metro station.
ACTIVITIES FOR ALL TASTES
Vaudreuil-Dorion is ideal for nautical activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding and canoeing. It also has many bicycle paths as well as welcoming parks and green spaces. Golf enthusiasts will be charmed by the country decor of the nearby golf courses. As for Le centre multisports, every season it offers courses and sports activities that will please everyone. To get out of the ordinary, the whole family will want to take advantage of the free activities presented by the annual Circus Festival.
INTERACTIVE CULTURE
In Vaudreuil-Dorion, culture is also in the spotlight since the city, through its Mozaïk cultural network, gives its population privileged access, via seven interactive terminals located in cultural venues, to a wide catalogue of cultural activities. On each of these terminals, the population can find the city's cultural calendar, information on cultural venues, quizzes and articles written by citizens or community players.
HERITAGE
Rich of several monuments and historic buildings such as l'église Saint-Michel, la Maison Trestler or the former Collège Saint-Michel which now houses the Vaudreuil-Soulanges regional museum, Vaudreuil-Dorion enhances its historic heritage. A historical and architectural tour has been built and is available online at circuitvd.ca.
It is also possible to visit the home of Lionel Groulx, a great historian and churchman, and that of the great poet Félix Leclerc, who lived there for much of the 1950s and 1960s and is now being used by the city for activities.
